Riverside stays reviewed for the things the photo cannot show: flood risk, river noise, balcony privacy, breakfast hours, and how far the water actually is from the room door in 2026.
What a river view is worth
A river view is only worth paying for if you can use it. We check the floor, the direction of the balcony, whether a road runs between the hotel and the water, and whether the room sits above a bar terrace. A partial view over a car park is not the room in the brochure.
Water, weather and access
Rivers rise. We ask about the flood line, the ground-floor rooms and what the hotel does when the path closes. We also check the actual walking route to the waterfront, because a property that calls itself riverside can sit fifteen minutes uphill from the bank.
Noise, food and the real rate
River towns are quiet until the weekend, when the promenade fills and the kitchens stay open late. We compare a Friday and a Tuesday rate, note whether breakfast is included and add the parking or transfer cost. The total is the only number that matters when two hotels look identical online.
